Ottawa Senators defenceman Dennis Gilbert left Saturday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs early after taking a hard hit from Maple Leafs defenceman Oliver Ekman-Larsson.
Head coach Travis Green said via Postmedia’s Bruce Garrioch after the game that Gilbert would be out for a while. He did not have a specific update on Gilbert’s injury.

With the Sens leading 5-2 late in the third period, Gilbert chased a loose puck into the corner and was drilled into the boards by Ekman-Larsson. The Sens’ blueliner appeared in considerable pain as play continued and remained down on the ice after the whistle blew. He eventually made his way off the playing surface and went down the tunnel.
Ekman-Larsson was not penalized on the play.
The 29-year-old Gilbert was playing in his sixth game with the big club this season. He had two blocked shots and was a plus-1 in 11:17 of ice time before departing as the Sens held on for the 5-2 victory.
Gilbert has one assist in six NHL games this season and 12 assists in 31 AHL games with Belleville in 2025-26.
Ottawa will be back in action on Monday evening at Madison Square Garden against the New York Rangers.
