Oh that was a big head clash there for Toby Couchman.

He was upright in the tackle and ended up falling backwards stunned after colliding with Val Holmes, I think.

He is going to go off, slowly and careful, but under his own power.

30′ Captains challenge by Dragons

So, Gutherson has kicked the ball through but it’s gone out off Mitch Moses.

Gutherson is adamant that Moses played at that though and it should be Dragons ball on the 10 – and as he’s the captain he needs to convince nobody but himself that it deserves a challenge.

And it’s a good one – Moses clearly played at it and the Dragons have a great chance here.

They don’t take it though. Val Holmes is attempting the offload on the outside but he’s thrown it into the grass.

The Eels have a relieving play out from their own half of the field.

Oh, that looked nasty.

J’maine Hopgood is down injured.

Hopgood was the victim of a hip drop-looking tackle by Ryan Couchman.

Hopgood is in a lot of pain, his right knee is it? It twisted nastily in the action of the tackle and, after a fair delay, the Dragons forward is going to be in trouble here.

He’s off, and on report.

27′ LINEBREAK DRAGONS!

That’s magic from the Dragons – Valentine Holmes through a massive gap at stunning pace.

He bursts free and has support on the inside, but delays his pass and, when he does deliver it, throws it quite a long way forward.

Well spotted by the officials, and it’s a let-off for the Eels!

Jaydn Su’A on the charge!

Daniel Atkinson at second receiver, had the freight train Su’A coming on his right shoulder at a rate of knots.

Su’A got the short, flat pass and hammered into Jonah Pezet, who was never going to make the tackle – mostly because he’s barely half the size of Su’A and has some degree of self-preservation – and crashes over.

The kick is good – the Dragons lead 14-6!

23′ Knock on Eels

Clever stuff from the Dragons.

Kyle Flanagan was looking to kick but spotted an option outside him on the right after a suspiciously late Leilua offload.

The Eels try and snuff it out but there is a knock on by Sean Russell in the attempt to intercept which gives the Dragons a scrum 20 metres out.

21′ Parramatta gets another set restart

The Dragons have just started to look a little bit fatigued over the last couple of minutes.

A good bomb towards Iongi was not chased with anything like the desire that Shaun Flanagan would have wanted.

And then another set restart was given away for Ryan Couchman being lazy in the ruck.

The Eels make the most of it and get a good kick away but Bailey Simonnon knocks the ball on

I think a penalty try was the wrong call

Surprising penalty try decision there. Gutherson had him covered I think.

But Su’A knew what he was doing and it was a dumb play that was fortunate (in a way) not to result in a sin binning.

But yeah, Gutherson was there and I don’t know how you can argue Jonah Pezet was definitely going to score.

Luciano Leilua on the RAMPAGE!

Just try stopping him from there.

Coming back on the angle, 10 metres out, a little stutter step and then a big charge from the Dragons power forward.

There were Dragons in front of the ball carrier but none of them were impeded so the try is given without too much issue.

The Dragons are back in the lead after Val Holmes adds the extras.

Cook actually did his best referee impression by giving that try himself – someone give him a whistle for reserve grade next week.

Oh my!

Cooper Cronk on Fox Sports says he “can’t agree with that” and it is certainly a tough one on the Dragons.

“Jayden Su’A is all over Jonah Pezet. If he doesn’t touch him [and allows Pezet to catch the ball], he get arms around him and [Pezet] won’t score that try,” Cronk says.

“Clint Gutherson is coming across, as well.

“I’m sorry, but that’s not a penalty try.”

They gave up two set restarts in the Eels attacking play.

It’s certainly a penalty.

Probably a sin bin too.

And Jonah Pezet is only a couple of metres away from the line when he gets the ball.

But…

Gutherson is coming across, Su’A is there as well.

Hmmm.

It’s given as a penalty try.

The Dragons won’t like it, I’m not sure I do either.

Moses kicks the extras from dead in front and it’s 6-2 to the Eels.

Moses Suli ran like he was shot out of a cannon at Ryley Smith, who then gets collected after making the tackle and falls to ground.

Surely he’s going to have to go off.

No, the doctor must have his TV off and the cursory investigation from the Eels trainer was barely long enough for Smith to confirm his name.

Kyle Flanagan thought he saw a gap and wanted to have a little dart on the last from a couple of metres out, but the defence stood firm from the Eels.

6′ Penalty Dragons!

Another penalty off a bomb – another penalty for shepherding off the kick!

That was soft, minimal contact from Kitione Kautoga on Val Holmes, but he did change his line and angled into the Maroons centre as he chased.

It’s dumb footy.

The Eels are furious, as are the crowd but it’s the correct call.

This time the Dragons are going for the try with a tap and go.

3′ Penalty Dragons

First blood to Clint Gutherson in the battle of the fullbacks, getting up above Isaiah Iongi and getting the ball back on the Dragons side.

It’s untidy – and the whistle has gone…

Ryley Smith shepherded one of the chasers pretty early in the chase off the high bomb, so penalty Dragons.

It’s only 12 metres out, dead in front so, despite the boos, the Dragons are going to take the points here.

Val Holmes slots it and the Dragons lead 2-0.

1′ We’re underway in Paramatta

A sun-bathed Parramatta too – the shadows cast across half the field as the Eels kick off and the Dragons have the first hit up.

It’s a good series of runs from the Dragons big men too – all making 10 metres each to take St George Illawarra up to half way and the kick is a good one too.

Good start for the Dragons – no thrills football to start us off.

NSW Cup result

The Dragons need look no further than their reserve grade team for inspiration this afternoon.

The Dragons ended up winning 38-8 against Parramatta in the NSW Cup, thanks to a David Fale hat-trick.
