Day 5 in Miami brings yet another exciting slate of matches, with the tournament seemingly now moving past the rain delays. This includes a host of top players, crowd favourites, and exciting youngsters, all in action as the pressure ramps up in Miami. As always, we will be predicting every match that takes place, including French phenom Arthur Fils squaring off against Stefanos Tsitsipas. But who do you think will advance?

ATP Miami Day 5 Predictions
Tomas Martin Etcheverry vs Rafael Jodar

Head-to-head: First meeting

Tomas Martin Etcheverry delivered a clutch performance in his opening match in Miami and now faces youngster Rafael Jodar, who also impressed in his first outing. This match will likely hinge on whether Jodar’s aggressive baseline play can break down Etcheverry’s defense and force the Argentine onto the back foot. While conditions may help the youngster, Etcheverry’s experience should see him edge a tight contest.

Prediction: Etcheverry in 3

Taylor Fritz vs Reilly Opelka

Head-to-head: Fritz 5-1 Opelka

An all-American clash is in store in Miami as servebot Reilly Opelka takes on one of the most consistent American players of the past few years, Taylor Fritz. As with most of his matches, this will likely come down to whether Opelka keeps holding serve consistently and then takes his chances in tiebreaks, something he did exceptionally well in his upset win over Jack Draper in the previous round. Fritz, however, holds a clear advantage in all the other areas, and with his improved return game, should create enough opportunities to come through.

Prediction: Fritz in 2

Karen Khachanov vs Martin Landaluce

Head-to-head: First meeting

Karen Khachanov bounced back from an early exit at Indian Wells with a solid opening match win in Miami, in conditions better suited to his counterpunching style. Martin Landaluce’s best chance will be to play aggressively, shorten points, and try to overpower the Russian. However, Landaluce is unlikely to sustain that level consistently, especially against Khachanov’s ability to redirect pace, which should prove decisive.

Prediction: Khachanov in 2

Arthur Fils vs Stefanos Tsitsipas

Head-to-head: Fils 4-0 Tsitsipas

Arthur Fils faces Stefanos Tsitsipas in one of the most exciting matches of the day, with the contest likely hinging on forehand effectiveness. On the fast Miami courts, Tsitsipas’ serve has looked strong in his opening matches. However, his return and backhand remain liabilities, and Fils, with his powerful baseline game, should generate enough free points to play freely and secure another win in this matchup.

Prediction: Fils in 2
