AWENDAW, S.C. – Coastal Carolina posted a 5-under 283 in Monday’s second round and is in sixth place at 16-under 560 after 36 holes at the Hootie Intercollegiate, hosted at Bulls Bay Golf Club.
The Chanticleers slipped one spot in the standings and trail leader College of Charleston (-41), No. 43 South Carolina (-27), No. 45 Purdue (-22), No. 39 Kansas (-21) and No. 37 Clemson (-18) entering Tuesday’s final round.
Drew Sykes continues to pace Coastal Carolina and is tied for fifth place individually at 9-under 135 after rounds of 65 and 70. The sophomore followed his opening-round 65 with a steady 2-under round on Monday, highlighted by three birdies.
Freshman Harrison James also sits under par for the tournament at 5-under 139 after carding a 2-under 70 in the second round. Junior Jack Lee improved his position with a 1-under 71 and is at 2-under 142 through two rounds.
Freshman Santiago Schele recorded an even-par 72 and is even for the tournament, while senior Max Bengtsson added a 1-over 73 in round two.
As a team, Coastal Carolina combined for 14 birdies in the second round and remained among the top half of the 15-team field heading into the final day of play.
The Chanticleers will close out the Hootie Intercollegiate with the final round on Tuesday.
