Jean Silva is very confident in his chances against UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski.

Volkanovski (28-4 MMA, 15-3 UFC) sees Movsar Evloev (20-0 MMA, 10-0 UFC), who defeated Lerone Murphy by majority decision in the UFC Fight Night 270 headliner, as the rightful No. 1 contender.

Silva (17-3 MMA, 6-1 UFC) was in attendance for that fight in London and previously claimed that he traveled there to sign a contract to fight Volkanovski. However, Volkanovski wants to do right by the division and face Evloev, and Silva takes umbrage with that.

“It’s really a dangerous game to let somebody like Movsar to be a champion in the league,” Silva said on “The Ariel Helwani Show” through an interpreter. “Because the whole thing revolves around the champion, and out of all these fights he’s had, Movsar’s got like 10 or 11 cancellations, I think, at this point? That just wouldn’t look good. If you look at it, I have the formula for what a UFC champion should be. This is more than just a fighting championship.

“This is a sports league, so whoever is at the front, that person has got to be able to bring the viewership. You’ve got to be able to promote the event. It’s about audience interest. You have to really make sure that you’re bringing this in. I personally wouldn’t sign up for Paramount just to watch Movsar fight for the belt. Nobody should do that because you just don’t know what’s going to happen. I’m the guy who actually brings it in. I’m the name out there. There’s no other name that could do it as well as I could.”

Silva takes Volkanovski’s choice as a sign of fear and went as far as saying he’d walk away if he lost.

“He’s afraid of facing me,” Silva said. “What does he want to do, 25 minutes of defending takedowns? My message to Volkanovski is this: Let’s just stop all the BS, let’s think straight about it. Let’s go in, let’s exchange some strikes, and I’ll say more: If he wins, if Volkanovski wins, I’ll leave the UFC. That’s what I’ll say.”
