Broncos captain Adam Reynolds has revealed he still doesn’t know what went down between Michael Maguire and Ben Te’o that led to the latter’s resignation.
Te’o sent shockwaves through Red Hill this week when he quit his assistant coaching role just three rounds into the side’s premiership defence.
Reports surfaced on Tuesday morning about a heated argument between Maguire and his understudy prior to the win against Melbourne, but details have remained scarce.

His departure has left a gaping hole in Brisbane’s staff as the former State of Origin forward was overseeing the defence as well as acting as the blue-shirted on-field trainer.
Speaking on Triple M on Wednesday afternoon, Reynolds was asked about the situation but was unable to delve into the issues between Maguire and Te’o.

“He’s a wonderful coach, a lot of the success we had last season is due to Ben,” he said.
“We don’t know exactly what went on. I obviously didn’t travel to Melbourne [due to injury] and from what I’ve heard, there were lengthy discussions about certain processes and things – but that happens every day at training.
“No doubt discussions can become heated at times, but I don’t see that as anything out of the ordinary. I’m still a bit shocked, I don’t know exactly what went on.
“Obviously it’s a huge loss, he’s a big part of our squad. He’s a big reason why our defence is the way it is and he’s brought a lot of great things to the club.”

Reynolds, Te’o and Maguire have a relationship dating back longer than a decade, having worked closely together in South Sydney’s drought-breaking 2014 premiership.
While the spat between the two coaches has led to a messy exit, Reynolds had nothing but praise for Te’o and spoke about last year’s bonding session at a Manly pub that rescued the Broncos’ season after a rocky start.
“At the time, we weren’t playing well as a team,” he said.
“We looked at that and the idea from Benny to get together as a team and forget about football for a moment and connect together as a group.
“Off the back of that, we went on a bit of a run and kick-started our season.
“It’s not just the coaching aspect of football that’s important, it’s about understanding the individuals and what certain individuals or a group of men may be going through at the time and he was really good at recognising that.
“Still a bit in shock, he’s a great coach and no doubt will be a great coach in the future.”
Te’o has been linked with Billy Slater’s Queensland staff – something the Broncos have confirmed they blocked before his exit – as well as the Gold Coast Titans. Â
