The Edmonton Oilers have been going through an offense full of disappointment. For the second straight year, Connor McDavid and company were denied a championship by the Florida Panthers.

Just two years ago, they were defeated in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final by the Panthers. Last season, they lost in six games to the same team.

Losing in the Stanley Cup Final in back-to-back seasons is extremely frustrating.

While the Oilers are hoping to get back to the same point and end with a different result during the upcoming 2025-26 NHL season, McDavid’s future has also become a major talking point.

McDavid has just one year remaining on his contract. Next offseason, he could leave Edmonton should he choose to do so.

Obviously, the Oilers will do everything in their power to keep him in town long-term. However, they cannot control his future. He will have a tough choice to make.

Could the superstar center actually leave Edmonton? That is a question that has been talked about quite often. A former NHL player has spoken out with his opinion.

Former Toronto Maple Leafs player Jay Rosehill spoke out with his opinion on McDavid’s future. He thinks remaining with the Oilers is the most likely outcome, but he does think the Maple Leafs will have a chance to lure him away.

“I think the chance of him leaving is small,” Rosehill said. “But if he does leave, I think Toronto is the only destination that he would go to.”

Nick Alberga, who is Rosehill’s co-host on the show, shared that he believes the same thing.

“There was whispers during the Cup Final (that) he’d really look at Los Angeles or the New York Rangers,” Alberga said. “I don’t buy that. I think it’s Toronto or Edmonton. I genuinely feel that way.”
