VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Villanova women’s tennis team returns to action at home this week, now set to host Rider on Thursday, March 26 at 3:00 p.m. The match was originally scheduled for Friday but has been moved up a day.
Villanova enters the midweek matchup looking to bounce back after a setback against BIG EAST opponent St. John’s last week.
Despite the result, the Wildcats displayed strong doubles play, capturing the opening point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Lauren Monti and Jenna Stevens secured a 6-4 win at No. 2, while Olivia Corcoran and Miriam Gondorova clinched the point with a 7-5 victory at No. 3.
In singles competition, Villanova will aim to build on several encouraging performances. Maggie Gehrig highlighted the effort with an impressive comeback win at the No. 2 spot, rallying for a 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 victory. The Wildcats also saw a strong three-set battle from Miriam Gondorova at No. 3, underscoring the team’s competitiveness throughout the lineup.
Rider enters Thursday’s match with a 2-11 overall record, including a 1-6 mark on the road. The Broncs have dropped five straight matches, with one of their two wins this season coming in a 5-2 road victory over Monmouth.
