The rise of the Atlanta Hawks continues after taking down the Eastern Conference leaders
Aussie duo Dyson Daniels and Jock Landale have both played key roles as the high-flying Atlanta Hawks picked up arguably their biggest scalp in their recent run of form, taking down the Eastern Conference leading Detroit Pistons on their home floor in an overtime thriller.
Daniels record a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds as the Hawks beat the Pistons 130-129 at Little Caesar’s Arena to take their streak to three games and win 14 of their past 15 contests.
The 23-year-old guard went 8-from-14 from the field at 57% – his third straight game shooting above 50% with the Australian Boomers star shooting 62.5% and 70.6% in his previous two games. He has shot above the mark four out of the past five games with the only game below being the loss to the Houston Rockets last week which snapped their 11-game winning streak.
Boomers and Hawks teammate, Landale, also featured heavily in Atlanta’s result, playing 28 minutes off the bench for five points and more importantly, 10 rebounds.
The victory puts to bed the talk the Hawks couldn’t beat top sides with most of their wins in the 11-game winning streak coming against teams suggested to be tanking for a high draft pick.
Quin Snyder’s side are now tied with the fifth-placed Toronto Raptors and sit a game clear of the Philadelphia 76ers, who are in seventh spot.
Former NBLÂ Next Star with the Cairns Taipans, Bobi Klintman, was a DNP Coach’s Decision for the Pistons, who remain in top spot in the conference despite missing All-Star point guard Cade Cunningham with a collapsed lung.
NBAÂ BOXÂ SCORE:Â Detroit Pistons vs Atlanta Hawks
Dyson Daniels has scored in double figures in 10 of Atlanta’s last 12 games as they claimed a critical overtime victory over the Detroit Pistons on the road.
Meanwhile, Jock Landale continues to provide a presence in the paint for the Hawks but needs more shots after going 2-from-5 in the victory.
NBAÂ BOXÂ SCORE: Philadelphia 76ers vs Chicago Bulls
Josh Giddey fell just short of another triple-double as the Chicago Bulls struggled to provide any resistance defensively against the Philadelphia 76ers, going down 157-137 on the road.
Giddey had 23 points, going 8-from-13 from the field and 3-from-6 from the three-point line, along with 12 assists and nine rebounds but it wasn’t enough as the Bulls didn’t turn up on the other end of the floor, giving up 55% shooting to the 76ers.
Lachlan Olbrich played six minutes for the Bulls and had two points and two rebounds.
