Twenty Twenty Six, the highly-anticipated sitcom starring Hugh Bonneville and Hugh Skinner, has confirmed its release date. With narration from David Tennant, this could be a big hit!

The mockumentary is a follow-up to both Twenty Twelve and W1A, which satirised the upper management of the BBC. The former saw Bonneville portray Ian Fletcher in the lead-up to the 2012 Summer Olympics, and this latest series follows his comeback.

The new series sees Ian reunite with Will Humphries (Skinner), with the action this time focusing on the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Bonneville’s character has a new position as Director of Integrity, which seems ripe for satire.

After being announced in June, many fans have been left wondering when Ian and co will be seen on the small screen again, and it has now been confirmed that Twenty Twenty Six will premiere at 10pm on BBC Two on 8 April.

Bonneville confirmed with a post via Instagram, with the caption reading: “A major international tournament is approaching. In an office somewhere in Miami is Ian Fletcher, a ball and quite possibly a plan.”

The comment section was inundated with messages from several enthusiastic fans, with one expressing excitement as they wrote: “Finally some good news in this crazy world at the moment.”

“If it’s half as good as Twenty Twelve it will be brilliant,” noted a second follower, while a third didn’t seem too optimistic about the home nations’ chances at the tournament as they wrote: “This will be so much better than the actual football.”

In addition to Bonneville and Skinner, the cast for the new sitcom includes Marli Siu, Nicole Sadie Sawyerr, Joe Hewetson, Erin Kellyman, Nick Blood, Jimena Larraguivel, Stephen Kunken and Chelsey Crisp.

“I’m thrilled and hugely grateful to the BBC for giving me the chance to follow Ian again, this time all the way to Miami, and I literally can’t wait to see what happens,” said creator John Morton.

“It’s been absolutely ages since I played Will in W1A,” added Skinner (via BBC). “He’s still on the whole, completely useless and I’m thrilled to be having another go. It’s been a complete joy being back with the cast and crew, old and new.”

Twenty Twenty Six premieres on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer on 8 April.
