Saturday’s game marks the third National Championship appearance in program history for the Lakers, previously appearing in 2006 and 2025.

PITTSBURGH — The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) women’s basketball team is playing in the National Championship this weekend for the second year in a row.

The Lakers are set to take on Indiana University, Pennsylvania (IUP), on Saturday, March 28, for the win.

GVSU advanced to the championship game with a 61-39 win over UAH in the Final Four.

Saturday’s game marks the third National Championship appearance in program history for the Lakers, previously appearing in 2006 and 2025. They left with a win both times.

GVSU is hoping to become the first team since Lubbock Christian in 2019 and 2021 to win consecutive titles and the first since Cal Poly Pomona in 2001 and 2002 to win in back-to-back calendar years.

The championship game will be the first-ever meeting of GVSU and IUP.
