A measles alert has been issued for the Gold Coast area after two cases were confirmed to have been contracted by people overseas and then brought home to Australia.

Gold Coast Health listed 11 different “exposure sites” where people may have inadvertently been exposed to the virus, which can cause fever, coughing, blotchy rashes, runny noses and sore eyes.

Health authorities have issued a warning to residents after a traveller with a highly infectious disease was detected in a major city. NSW Health was notified of a traveller with a confirmed case of measles who took an international flight to Sydney and visited several locations in the city. The person returned from South-East Asia, which are currently reporting measles outbreaks, incuding Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
