Will Skelton‘s availability for upcoming Wallabies matches could take a serious hit with fears he’s ruptured his Achilles tendon playing club rugby in France.

Skelton left the field in the first half of the Top 14 clash, which his side, La Rochelle, lost to Bayonne.

According to French publication RugbyRama, La Rochelle assistant coach Rémi Talès revealed the fears of a rupture.

“There’s a suspected Achilles tendon rupture,” he said.

“It’s tough for a player like him, given the effort he’s put in to come back after his calf injury.

“We’re all thinking of him and hope he recovers quickly, because we need him.”

In the aftermath, Skelton posted a photo on his Instagram story with his right foot in a moon boot. He captioned the photo “C’est la vie”, French for “that’s life”.

If Skelton’s Achilles has been fully ruptured, he could be on the sidelines for about six months, depending on the rehabilitation process.

The giant forward has had multiple injury issues in recent seasons, including an ankle problem in November last year. He had also just returned from a calf injury.

The Wallabies next matches are in July against Ireland, France and Italy in the inaugural Nations Championship.
