Our Junior team picked up its sixth victory of the year.
Vic De Smet produced a strong ride Sunday afternoon on home soil to take his second success of the season, after the one in De Klijte-Heuvelland, three weeks ago, when he arrived alone at the finish after a powerful attack.
The 16-year-old, who just a few days ago finished top ten at E3 Saxo Classic, had a good start and rode through the first checkpoint close to the best time. In the second part of the course, the Belgian increased the speed and moved into the virtual lead. He maintained that speed until the finish, where he stopped the clock in 36:57, enough to finish first for a couple of seconds.
“It was a pretty long individual time trial, so it was important not to start too fast, and that’s exactly what I did. I was behind my opponents at the first checkpoint, but on the second lap I was able to pick up the pace and make up a lot of time”, Vic said after his win. “It means a lot to me. It’s always nice to win, especially as this was only my second race on the time trial bike. The season is still long, but it’s definitely a success that’s good for morale.”
