In a bit of surprising MLB contract news, the Milwaukee Brewers are on the verge of finalizing an eight-year, $50.75 contract extension with top prospect Cooper Pratt, according to multiple reports.
Pratt, a 21-year-old shortstop prospect, has yet to make his MLB debut. While deals like this with young, touted prospects aren’t totally uncommon, this MLB news just kinda came out of nowhere. Pratt is starting the 2026 season with Triple-A Nashville, but has not made it past Double-A before this season.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today was first on the report of the year and financial value.
The deal will also reportedly include two $15 MM club options.
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal gives insight that there are potential escalators on the club options, essentially saying the contract could gain value if Cooper Pratt earns any high-ranking accolades (Gold Gloves, Silver Slugger, All-Star berths, etc.).
Kind of a bold move by the Brewers, but they typically tend to know what they are doing when it comes to the players they want to lock up for the foreseeable future. Only time will tell how this Cooper Pratt deal will pan out.
Pratt is a lifetime .261 hitter in his four-year minor league career. He has 16 home runs in 844 at-bats
In 120 games with Double-A Biloxi last season, Pratt hit just .238 with an OPS of .691 and eight home runs.
He was drafted by the Brewers in the sixth round of the 2023 MLB draft.

Cooper Pratt Has been an Exceptional Fielder in the Minors
Here is Cooper Pratt’s MiLB.com bio:
“A Minor League Gold Glove winner in 2024, Pratt continues to flash impressive timing and instincts at a premium position, and while his decent speed doesn’t give him huge range, his arm strength and accuracy still help him on some of the deeper throws. His combination of contact and defense gives him a solid floor and a fighting shot to be Milwaukee’s shortstop of the future, even with Jesús Made and Luis Peña charging up behind him.”
With the extension news, Brewers fans can certainly expect to see Cooper Pratt in the major leagues at some point.
With a strong season in the minors, Milwaukee’s front office may want to get a glimpse of him in the big leagues as soon as this season.
