How can you not love this guy? I mean, there’s lots going on these days but Tadej Pogačar has a helluva social media and public presence. And he just made a fan’s day with a simple comment.

We’ve seen these videos for years. “If I get a million likes bla bla bla,” you know the drill.

A cute Instagram video has taken on a life of its own after Tadej Pogačar dropped into the comments.

Ethan Thompson, a physiotherapist, filmed himself asking his wife what it would take for him to justify buying a new bike. Not just any bike, but specifically a Colnago Y1Rs, the same model ridden by the world champ. They ain’t cheap. (Don’t worry, Pogi gets a deal.)

Her terms were steep. She said it would take a million likes. Then she hummed and hawed and added that the Tour de France winner needed to comment.

His response: “So, like Tadej Pogačar? You know that’s impossible, right?”

To which the wife laughed and said, “well you better get working.”

Didn’t take long before guess who showed up in the comments. And, given the kind of guy Pogi seems to be, this wasn’t a social media manager like many celebs, but probably the champ himself.

“Good luck,” Pogačar commented. “And if you have purchased the bike, don’t forget to buy a gift for the boss in the house. Whoever of you is.”

He’s still got a way to go until he gets 1 million likes. But getting Pogi to comment is something.

Trust me—back in 2022 there was a funny story on the pages of Canadian Cycling Magazine, entitled, “Urška Žigart’s boyfriend won the Slovenian national road championships.” It was poking fun at Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad that ran a story, “‘Girlfriend of Pogačar stranded 75 (!) metres from the finish in Switzerland, Eleonora Gasparrini wins the sprint and puts an end to SD Worx’s winning streak.” The Internet was gobsmacked that a pro cyclist in her own right was reduced to a nameless partner.

The story went viral, as it were, and eventually Pogačar himself shared it.

You never know when the world champ is gonna show up, it seems.

Meanwhile, that dude better get working if he wants that bike.
