nbn Local are hosting a series of information sessions in Gunnedah throughout August. Soon, over 2,100 homes and businesses will be eligible to upgrade to full fibre via nbn Fibre to the Premises (FTTP).

nbn delivery partner Downer, is completing work as part of the nbn Fibre Upgrade Program. These upgrades include parts of Gunnedah currently on Fibre to the Node (FTTN) copper technology and the upgrade work is due for completion later this year.

Upgrading to full fibre via nbn FTTP can enable access to a faster and more reliable nbn broadband service, delivering a range of benefits including smoother, higher-resolution video calls, enhanced streaming, faster downloads, and the ability to connect more devices simultaneously.

With the recent announcement of speed boosts for higher tier plans and the introduction of multi-gigabit speeds from September 2025, there’s never been a better time to consider upgrading to full fibre.

Selected premises with Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) technology will also be able to upgrade to full fibre if they order an eligible plan through a participating provider.

nbn have also rolled out a significant enhancement to the Fixed Wireless network. With a $750 million investment—$480 million from the Australian Government and $270 million from NBN Co—nbn has brought faster speeds and greater capacity to more than 800,000 homes and businesses across Australia.

For the areas surrounding Gunnedah, including Gunnedah Closed Road, Gunnedah South, Porcupine Hill, and Curlewis, this means improved connectivity for over 1,000 premises.

Speeds have been significantly boosted with Fixed Wireless Home Fast now available to about 90 per cent of the expanded Fixed Wireless footprint and is expected to offer peak wholesale speeds of about 200-250/8-20 Mbps.

Homes and businesses in the area are encouraged to check their address on the nbn website to see what service is available to them: www.nbn.com.au/checkregional

Head of nbn Local NSW, Tom O’Dea, said the upgrades deliver a better, and more reliable internet experience for homes and businesses.

“Households are consuming more data than ever to the things they love, like streaming 4K on multiple devices, online education, next level gaming, conference calls, and uploading and downloading large files for work,” he said.

“Places like Gunnedah are no longer just areas people stop in while commuting or for holidays. Faster, more reliable internet is enabling people to live and work remotely in places they otherwise wouldn’t be able to.”
