The three-year cycle moves on and the UCI Ranking grows ever more intense. The WorldTour cobbled classics (Tour of Bruges, E3 Saxo Classic and In Flanders Fields) and the Volta a Catalunya scooped up virtually all the points on offer over the past week. Other key races also mattered across the board. UAE remain on top, Movistar Team slide further, Visma surge, and Alpecin leap up after dominating their favourite terrain.

The promotion–relegation battle is getting fiercer. But first, the team of the week: Alpecin-Premier Tech. Thanks to their classics haul, the Belgian squad jumped from 20th (1,832 points last week) to 8th in the Ranking (3,235 points). Mathieu van der Poel won the E3 Saxo Classic and Jasper Philipsen doubled down at the In Flanders Fields, having already placed 2nd at the Tour de Bruges. At the top of the table, UAE Team Emirates – XRG remain in command. It was not their strongest week, with no wins since Tadej Pogacar’s Milano–Sanremo. Even so, on 8,383.4, they sit comfortably in first place.

Chasing them are Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe who, thanks to Florian Lipowitz’s 3rd overall at the Volta a Catalunya and Remco Evenepoel’s 5th, still hold a buffer of almost 400 points over Jonas Vingegaard’s Visma | Lease a Bike, fast closing after banking more than 1,000 points in the last week. Vingegaard’s own overall victory in Catalunya, with two stages included, was the standout result of the last seven days. Add Per Strand Hagenes’s 2nd at the E3 Saxo Classic and Christophe Laporte’s 3rd at In Flanders Fields, and the Dutch team have finally moved past XDS Astana Team into 3rd in the standings.

Like Visma, Decathlon CMA CGM were major climbers in the UCI Ranking, rising from 7th to 5th, just behind Astana. Tobias Lund Andresen continues to cement his status as a rising star with a rich points return from the cobbles (2nd at Fields of Flanders and 6th at the E3 Saxo Classic, where teammate Stan Dewulf was 4th). Felix Gall’s 6th overall at the Volta also proved important.

In the lower echelons of the rankings, we find that Unibet Rose Rockets continue to be the team on the up.

After the controversy of missing out on Tour de France wildcards, Bas Tietema’s squad have doubled down on a strong season and are now 19th after climbing two places, just one step from promotion. Dylan Groenewegen’s victory at the Tour de Bruges is their best result so far.Dylan Groenewegen upset other sprinters at Tour de Brugge

Teams in danger

Just behind them, we find Spain’s only WorldTour team. Movistar are currently 20th with 2,335.9 points (up 343.9 week-on-week), trailing ProTeams such as Tudor (12th), Pinarello-Q36.5 (14th), Cofidis (18th) and even the aforementioned Unibet Rose Rockets. It is a real concern they hope to fix once the Grand Tours arrive, but it undeniably ramps up pressure for the coming fixtures.

The situation remains dire for Picnic PostNL. The Dutch WorldTour team made some progress compared to last week, moving up from 31st to 26th with 215 points scored (most of them through Pavel Bittner’s 6th place at Tour of Bruges), however the 18th Cofidis, which has already scored three times the amount of points this season, is not anywhere near Picnic’s reach at the moment.
