Cronulla‘s weekend has gone from bad to worse, with gun forward Briton Nikora set to be ruled out until the NRL finals.

The back-rower was placed on report and sin binned late in his side’s shock 22-14 loss against the Dragons for a high shot on Corey Allan.

Nikora rushed out of the line and collected Allan, who was soon forced from the field for a head injury assessment.

The tackle was immediately penalised by referee Ashley Klein, who was heard telling the Bunker official to take a closer look at Nikora’s conduct.

Moments later, Klein called Nikora over and gave him his marching orders as the home fans erupted at Kogarah Oval with victory all-but secured.

The match review committee have since charged Nikora with a grade two careless high tackle, which will result in a three-week suspension if he takes the early guilty plea.

Should the club opt to fight the charge and lose, Nikora will miss four games.

It’s a costly blow for the Sharks, who are still battling to retain their spot in the finals and will now be without one of their strike weapons for the rest of the regular season.

Cronulla are scheduled for a bye in round 25, which means Nikora won’t be available to play until the post-season – should his teammates get them there.
