The Illawarra Hawks have picked up Tyler Harvey’s team option, and the two parties have subsequently agreed on an extension through the 2027-28 NBL season, sources told ESPN.

The deal will have Harvey — a 6’4 combo guard out of California — contracted through to what would be his eighth season with the Hawks; the franchise he helped lead to a championship in 2025.

Harvey first joined the Hawks ahead of the team’s 2020-21 NBL campaign, and was named to that season’s All-NBL First Team. He was also a member of the All-NBL First Team in 2025, and played a primary role in the Hawks’ first title since 2001.

Over the 2025-26 season, Harvey averaged 16.9 points and 3.6 assists per game, shooting 38.9% from 3PT (on 6.8 3PA) for a Hawks team that suffered through injuries and finished eight on the ladder.

Harvey, who’ll turn 33 in July, earned permanent residency in Australia in February of 2026, with an expectation that he’ll become a citizen ahead of the 2027-28 NBL season. Harvey is currently an import in the NBL, but his impending Australian citizenship would allow the Hawks to designate him as a marquee player for the final year of this deal, which would see his salary hit the cap at a lower, fixed rate.
