Lucasfilm has premiered a new and intense promo spot for “Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord” ahead of the limited release next week.

The new animated series centers around “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace” and animated “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” antagonist Darth Maul.

Sam Witwer, who voiced the character in that series and in “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” will return to the role here, with events taking place after Palpatine became Emperor and Maul is on the run.

Maul strikes against the criminal underworld as he rebuilds his power, confronting the Inquisitor First Brother, and taking on a new Twi’lek apprentice whom he believes will help him in his quest for vengeance after he received a Force vision.

Oscar nominee Wagner Moura also lends his voice to the series, which is using the tagline “Chains can be broken. Empires can be shattered”.

The series, which was announced at Star Wars Celebration last year, will premiere on the Disney+ service on April 6th with a double episode. Two episodes will continue airing weekly through May 4th.
