A company suing the West Australian government for banning particular types of trawling for commercial quantities of snapper and red emperor claims the decision was made for political purposes rather than scientific reasons.
In the West Australian Supreme Court, lawyers for South African company Sea Harvest claimed state Fisheries Minister Jackie Jarvis was “obsessed” with dolphins being caught as a byproduct of demersal fishing and had sought out reasons to ban it.
