The Albert Park Circuit’s original pit complex is nearly no more.
Demolition work of the 30-year-old complex has recently commenced in readiness for the build of a new facility, as shown in these images captured by V8 Sleuth.
As of the Easter break, around two-thirds of the structure had been razed.
Constructed ahead of the inaugural Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne in 1996, the structure has primarily been utilised as a playing facility for a variety of local sporting clubs outside of the Formula 1 event.
A partial build of the new complex, which according to Development Victoria will ‘feature a combination of existing, new and temporary facilities’, is set to be in place for the 2027 Formula 1 event with full works to be completed by 2028.
According to a recent report by Victoria’s Auditor-General, the cost of the new pit complex has swelled to around $395 million – approximately $115 million more than initially budgeted – due to the removal of asbestos discovered in the soil of the original complex.
The Australian Grand Prix Corporation recently announced a three-year extension of its partnership with Supercars, ensuring the high-profile Grand Prix event will remain on the Supercars Championship calendar through to 2029.
