Maurice Rioli Jr’s stunning catch was hailed as the “mark of the year” during Richmond’s defeat to Port Adelaide.
The Tigers went down 90-48 at the MCG on Saturday afternoon as they remain without a win after four games.
But there was one moment of joy for Richmond fans towards the end of the second quarter, courtesy of forward Rioli.
The 23-year-old leapt above everyone around him and gathered the ball with his left hand to get those in attendance off their seats.
It was a remarkable piece of athleticism — and Rioli followed it up by taking the kick to secure six points for the Tigers.
Commentator Gerard Healy was left in awe at the take, exclaiming: “That is a ripper!
“Put a saddle on him, jumped up high, got it on the way down. Left handed… it was everything.”
Before Brad Johnson added: “If that doesn’t light you up, then nothing will in this game if you’re a Tigers player.
“Took one of the marks of the year!”
And fans on social media were quick to pour in with praise for the young Tigers star.
Michael Willson said: “Maurice Rioli lights up the Tigers late in the second term with a hanger in the goal square.”
While Chris Gleeson added: “The amount of times over the years that a Rioli does something incredible and it springs the crowd and team to life. Outstanding footy family.”
Tee-Dee reacted: “Rioli takes team mark of the year.”
And A Fighting Fury said: “Rioli has provided better marking contests than our talls so far. What a grab!”
Despite the standout moment, it was the Power who came away with the points for their second win in four games.
Richmond remain rooted to the foot of the AFL having conceded 75 points or more in all of their matches so far this season.
Next up for Adelaide is St Kilda, while Richmond take on the Giants.
