Collingwood star Darcy Cameron has recommitted to the club on a three-year extension, putting to bed rumours of a stalemate around his contract.

The 30-year-old ruck’s new deal was announced early on Monday morning by the Magpies, which sees him locked away in black and white until the end of the 2029 season.

Cameron, who moved from Sydney after just one AFL game in three seasons at the end of 2019, has since been a stalwart in Craig McRae’s side for 115 games. He was the club’s main ruck in their 2023 premiership side, before making last year’s 44-man All-Australian squad.

“I’m incredibly grateful to sign on for a further three years. Collingwood is a special place and I’m proud to call it home,” Cameron said via a club statement.

“With a single game under my belt when I arrived, to now playing over 100, the Pies put their faith in me and I’ll be forever grateful for the growth and opportunities I’ve had since arriving at the Club.

“Recommitting to Collingwood was an easy decision. This Club means a lot to me and now feels like the right time to commit again. We have such a special group here, from the players to the coaches and all staff, and I can’t wait to see what we achieve over the coming years.”

Magpies list manager Justin Leppitsch added: “Darcy has become a key pillar of our side, both on and off the field.”

“His work ethic, leadership and team-first approach sets a great example for all around him, and we’re excited to see what he can continue to deliver in the years ahead.”

Cameron’s decision is a considerable blow for West Coast, who were tipped as the hot favourite to land the Western Australian should he leave the Pies.

The Eagles have been on the hunt for a star ruck ever since Nic Naitanui’s final playing season in 2022, and continue to scout experienced players they can add to a youthful line-up.

37-year-old star Scott Pendlebury is also expected to re-sign at Collingwood and head into an incredible 21st season at AFL level, as a host of other veterans await new deals at the club.
