SILVER CITY, NEW MEXICO – UT Tyler tennis put together another strong day on the courts as both teams collected their fourth consecutive 7-0 sweep, this time taking down Western New Mexico.
 
WOMEN’S MATCH: #36 UT Tyler 7 | Western New Mexico 0
 
UT Tyler got off to a blistering start and rode that momentum all the way through to a 7-0 sweep and a 5-0 record in LSC play.
 
In doubles, both the #1 line of Yona Bancarel / Natalia Gorzny and the #3 line of Carla Rodier / Claudia Di Leonardo ensured an early lead, each winning their matches 6-2. Maria Antonio Ortega and Paula Castellanos capped off a doubles sweep, earning a 6-4 win in line #2.
 
In singles the Patriots poured it on, claiming three matches in under 60 minutes to ensure victory. Bancarel would continue her doubles dominance in the #1 line of singles, taking a 6-2, 6-1 win. Right behind her was Castellanos and Rodier in the #4 and #5 lines, with Castellanos winning 6-2, 6-1 and Rodier winning 6-1, 6-0.
 
The Patriots kept rolling on their way to a sweep, with Antonio Ortega going 6-2, 6-0 in her match in the #3 line. Di Leonardo would add a 6-0, 6-3 win in the #6 line, and Gorzny capped off the sweep and the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win in line #2.
 
MEN’S MATCH: #6 UT Tyler 7 | Western New Mexico 0
 
Over in the men’s match, it was much of the same as they cruised to their own 7-0 sweep, with just one match being pushed to three sets.
 
#1 line Daniil Felker and Carel Wessel kicked off doubles with a 6-3 win, and the Patriots added a 6-4 win in the #3 line from Trevor Short and Samuel Antwi to move ahead 1-0. Malo Poulesquen and Artiom Dorofeev capped off the sweep, winning 7-6 (8-6).
 
In singles, Antwi got things rolling quickly, taking 61 minutes to dispatch his opponent in line #4 by a score of 6-3, 6-0. Right behind him was Wessel in line #2, who took a 6-4, 6-1 win.
 
Felker would provide the match sealing point in line #5, outlasting a tiebreaker in the first set at 7-6 (8-6) before rattling off a 6-1 win in set two.
 
The Patriots would continue their strong play with Poulesquen in line #3 taking a 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) win and Jordi Garcia Portell adding his own straight sets win of 6-4, 6-1.
 
The final match of the day would be Dorofeev in the #1 line, and he would drop his opening set 4-6. He responded in huge fashion, taking a 6-4 win in set two before a 6-3 win in the final set completed the sweep.
 
The Patriots will now return home to the Summers Tennis Center for a pair of LSC matches this week. They will face Cameron on Friday and then Midwestern State on Saturday. The women will start their matches at 10 a.m. both days, while the men will get started at 1 p.m. both days.
