Sergio Perez has expressed hope that Cadillac will bring a significant car upgrade to the upcoming Miami round.
The Mexican has stated it will be the “biggest test” facing the squad as it continues to adjust to life in F1.
The sport is currently enduring a five-week break following the cancellation of the races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, offering all teams a chance to develop ahead of the season’s resumption.
Unsurprisingly, Cadillac’s lack of experience has left it languishing towards the back of the field at hte opening rounds – but Perez has voiced encouragement over its current state.
“It was very interesting when I was following, I was racing at the time,” Perez told media including RacingNews365.
“The Williams, the Alpine, I could see that they are not too far away. They were just able to consistently keep finding pace.”
However, Perez outlined that Cadillac needs to find substantial lap time to keep up with the competition, and hopes it can deliver in Miami, which hosts round four of the season at the start of May.
“It’s clear that we need a second now,” he said. “And I really hope that we are bringing a big upgrade for Miami, and that will be the biggest test for the team.
“We’ve been progressing every grand prix. This is the first grand prix that more or less everything has been straightforward – apart from the deployment issues I had [on Saturday].
“I really hope that we can make that step in the mix with the midfield.
“There are a lot of areas, but at the moment, the main one is low [speed] is where we are lacking. The balance itself is not too bad.
“We are just lacking in the slow.”
