Roger Federer Announces Shock Return To Tennis Court At Shanghai Masters

If you’re a tennis fan, you wouldn’t hear any better news today. Yes, the 20-time Grand Slam winner, one of the greatest to play the game, the veteran Roger Federer, is all set to return to tennis at the Shanghai Masters 2025. The former No.1 player confirmed his participation in “Roger & Friends” celebrity doubles event, to be held at Qizhong Stadium on October 10. Actor Wu Lei, martial artist and actor Donnie Yen, and former world No. 3 doubles player and a two-time Grand Slam doubles champion Zheng Jie will also grace the event along with Federer.
“Hello, this is Roger, and I am really happy to be returning to Qizhong Stadium in Shanghai for the Rolex Shanghai Masters,” said Federer in a promotional video, shared on social media.
“Shanghai has always been a special place for me, with great fans, unforgettable memories, and a real love for the game,” added the 20-time Grand Slam winner Federer.
Federer will return to the Shanghai Masters for the first time since 2017, where he won his second singles title at the tournament.
Roger Federer announced his retirement from Tennis at the Laver Cup in 2017. Federer had a glorious 24 year career where he won 20 Grand Slams, including a record eight Wimbledon titles. He was ranked No.1 for 310 weeks, and 237 of them consecutively. He also won a total of 103 ATP titles. Federer also earned Olympic gold in men’s doubles with Stan Wawrinka in 2008, along with a silver medal in singles at the 2012 Olympics. Federer recently joined Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic at Roland Garros to honour Rafael Nadal’s legendary career.
