A man who was shot by police after his mother called officers to conduct a welfare check last week has been charged with assaulting police.
Police say officers were called to Akebia Street in Arana Hills, north of Brisbane, on April 1 and were attempting to speak with the 19-year-old man when an altercation occurred.
It is alleged the man produced a large kitchen knife and was subsequently shot twice in the abdomen.Â
He was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
The man has been charged with three counts of serious assault of a police officer whilst armed with a weapon, and one count of serious assault of a police officer performing function whilst armed with a weapon.
He is expected to face a bedside hearing this afternoon.
The circumstances of the shooting are under investigation by the Ethical Standards Command with oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.Â
Last week, police confirmed the officers involved had body-worn cameras, which were operating at the time of the shooting.
They said a taser was also deployed during the incident.
