More than 50 years ago, a regional town in New South Wales played a vital role in broadcasting the first moon landing.

The Parkes radio telescope – also known as The Dish – tracked the Apollo 11 mission, and provided images of Neil Armstrong’s moon walk.

Now all these years later, regional Australia is playing a role in the Artemis II moon mission that’s underway right now.

One station in the remote South Australian desert is using a Raven Defense dish to help track the Orion spacecraft.

The company behind it is Southern Launch, its spokesperson Amy Featherston spoke with ABC NewsRadio’s Sarah Morice.
