Keeley Hawes‘ drama Finding Alice is getting a new streaming home in the UK.

The drama, which originally aired on ITV on Sunday nights in early 2021, will be coming to Netflix on Friday, 1 August.

The show tells the story of a woman who suddenly loses her husband when he falls down the stairs and dies.

Following his passing, she discovers that he has been hiding some dark secrets.

Alongside Hawes, the show stars Coronation Street‘s Nigel Havers, Bridget Jones‘ Gemma Jones, Absolutely Fabulous‘ Joanna Lumley, and Waterloo Road‘s Jason Merrells.

Despite the premise, Finding Alice isn’t actually a murder mystery, as director/co-writer Roger Golby put it during a Q&A when the show was launched (via Radio Times).

“It isn’t a whodunnit, it’s Alice’s story through grief,” he said. “And I guess we needed story.

“And a sudden death, an unexpected death… naturally throws up shock, secrets, mess, all of these things kind of came out very organically from that set-up.”

Earlier this year, Hawes featured in the new BBC drama Miss Austen, where she played Cassandra Austen, Jane’s lesser-known older sister.

Here at Digital Spy, we said Miss Austen “isn’t perfect, but it’s got heart”. Of Hawes, we added: “It’s one of the actor’s more tethered performances; the character feels tangible and grounded, reflecting the tone of the story itself.”

Looking ahead, the actor will appear in the thriller series The Assassin, which drops in just a few days. She will also serve as the narrator for the Sky Nature documentary Airborne.

Finding Alice can be streamed now on ITVX and will be coming to Netflix on 1 August.
