Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: Indian equities started the week on a firm footing, with benchmarks closing near the day’s high, led by strong buying in PSU banks and defence stocks.
Tata Motors was among the top gainers, climbing over 3% after reporting its Q1 results. Adani Enterprises and Trent also featured in the list of top gainers, while HDFC Bank, up nearly 1%, was one of the biggest contributors to the Nifty’s rise. L&T gained 2% after securing an order worth more than ₹15,000 crore from Adani Power. Defence stocks snapped a three-day losing streak, with Paras Defence rising nearly 5%.
In the pharma pack, Zydus Lifesciences advanced over 2% after receiving US FDA approval for its blood pressure and angina drug, while Lupin rose nearly 2% on the US launch of its glucagon injection emergency kit for diabetes. Sun TV jumped 4% after the promoter’s family withdrew all legal notices against them.
Doms Industries surged over 11% and DEE Development soared 14% on the back of strong Q1 results. Bajaj Consumer Products rose over 2% after posting strong earnings, whereas NSDL slipped more than 2% in its first decline since listing. However, air-conditioning stocks underperformed despite the buoyant market mood, with PG Electroplast falling after weak Q1 numbers and guidance cuts.
