PREMIAIR Racing driver Declan Fraser had far from the ideal lead-in to the first leg of Supercars’ New Zealand doubleheader.
Sources suggest Fraser would have been forced to the sidelines had racing been a week earlier – so unwell he was – and he still wasn’t 100 percent by the time the Taupō Super440 actually arrived.
“A couple of people just told me it was the man flu and to get over it,” Fraser laughed to V8 Sleuth.
“It sort of hit me on Friday last week, just a heap of cold sweats and fevers and coughing and ended up having a sinus infection and then some other form of sickness that I can’t even pronounce properly.
“It completely rolled me. So I spent the whole weekend on the couch trying to recover and get as best I could without medication, because everything was shut for the public holidays.

“Then I got into the doctor and had to miss out on all the sim that we had planned to get ready for this event.”
Fraser described his experience in Friday Taupō practice as “pretty rough” and reported still being a “bit under the weather” yesterday.
The #777 pilot took 14th place in the opening race, before a cross-threaded wheel nut condemned him to 23rd in the later race.
Christchurch will host Round 4 of the season across April 17-19.
