The final day of the Masters is complete and Rory McIlroy has defended his championship to claim a back-to-back win. He joins the likes of Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus as one of the few players to achieve the feat.
After an outstanding opening two days handed McIlroy a six-shot advantage at the halfway mark, a more difficult day followed on Saturday as he shot one over par and saw the field tighten up. McIlroy still holds the lead, jointly with Cameron Young.
The pair sat on -11 before their final round of the tournament, but faced stiff competition from Sam Burns (one shot behind), Shane Lowry (two shots behind) and Jason Day and Justin Rose (three shots behind). There will be no shortage of eyes on the ominous Scottie Scheffler, who bounced back with a round of 65 on Saturday to put himself within four shots of the lead.
Rose and Scheffler provided McIlroy with the most difficult competition but the Northern Irishman didn’t look back going through the final nine holes and secured victory in impressive fashion.
