Apple is pressing ahead with two major hardware moves, with its first foldable iPhone still on track for a September reveal and a new category of smart glasses taking shape behind the scenes.

Despite recent reports pointing to manufacturing setbacks, sources suggest the foldable iPhone remains aligned with Apple’s typical launch window. The device is expected to arrive alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models, with sales likely to begin shortly after. Pricing is tipped to exceed A$3,000, positioning it as a premium addition aimed at lifting average selling prices, even if initial supply is limited.

At the same time, Apple is developing a more accessible type of wearable in the form of display-free smart glasses. Rather than pursuing full augmented reality immediately, the company is focusing on a simpler concept built around cameras, audio and deep iPhone integration. The glasses are expected to handle everyday tasks such as calls, media playback and capturing photos, with a more advanced version of Siri acting as the central interface.

Apple is reportedly designing multiple frame styles in-house, avoiding partnerships with established eyewear brands. The aim is to create a recognisable product identity, similar to its approach with AirPods and Apple Watch.

While true augmented reality glasses remain further away, these developments signal a more gradual and practical shift into wearable computing.
