“Spy Kids” and “Desperado” filmmaker Robert Rodriguez has set an original Christmas film at Paramount Animation reports Variety.
The movie is based on a concept Rodriguez has been developing for more than a decade – originating from drawings and stories created for his children. Rodriguez will write, direct and produce the title.
The studio says the film will blend “holiday themes with a modern, next-generation approach”. It will mark Rodriguez’s first animated feature.
Rodriguez has shared some of the details of the characters on social media, adding that “way back in the day I was a cartoonist before I became a filmmaker” and calling this a “return to one of my first loves”.
No production timeline has been set out. The film is being overseen at the new Paramount by Jennifer Dodge who previously served as president of Spin Master entertainment and consumer products where she oversaw development of their film & TV efforts – most notably the “PAW Patrol” franchise.
Rodriguez last directed “Spy Kids: Armageddon” and “Hypnotic”.
