Mansell says he has ‘total sympathy’ with Verstappen on current F1 (Reuters)
‘It’s very disappointing to have the stallion of all racing cars, Formula 1, appearing in the first races that they’re not actually racing at times. That’s very alien to the fans, certainly alien to a race car driver who’s trying to input their special skills into it. And I have total sympathy with Max. Would I have voiced it as strong as he has? Perhaps not…but you know, what Lando says is perfect. What all the others have said is true. And I think the powers that be, they’re listening.’
‘I have this pain but, on the other hand, for me, the most important thing is that the company will continue to go forward. At the moment, they have 800 people in Hinwil and they’ll all keep their jobs. But they are expanding the team, they are buying additional land and will be erecting new buildings, so under the Audi name the team will move up, they’ll have all the means to move up. So, I believe and I hope they will have a beautiful future’
Fuoco to the fore as Ferrari finishes on top (WEC)
‘Fuoco wound up just 0.126secs ahead of Robert Kubica, who lapped second-quickest again at the wheel of last season’s 24 Hours of Le Mans-winning number 83 AF Corse 499P, as Giovinazzi similarly improved to remain within two tenths of the outright benchmark in third.’
Imola Tuesday Notebook (Sportscar 365)
‘It was a very solid debut WEC event appearance for Genesis Magma Racing as its new GMR-001s clocked up a total of 356 laps. ‘It was not a bad result, we had a few issues here and there, but nothing major, and we managed to do some test items,’ said Andre Lotterer. ‘It didn’t look too bad for our first day in the championship.”
IndyCar to use current engine in first tests with new chassis (Racer)
‘With validation needing to be done in the same conditions the car would encounter in 2028, Chevy and Honda would be expected to prepare motors for the early IR28 tests with elevated horsepower and torque output to mirror the increased speeds and subsequent forces that would be fed throughout the chassis by the hybrid 2028 engines.’
