Human remains have been found at a rural Queensland home that burnt down on Saturday night.

Police said a 75-year-old man and a 79-year-old woman who lived at the property in the remote area of Good Night, near Bundaberg, remained unaccounted-for.

Forensic examinations are underway to identify the remains.

Bundaberg Police Inspector Grant Marcus said police would be treating the fire as suspicious until authorities could determine the cause of the blaze.

Emergency services arrived at the home at Booyal Crossing Road at 9:15pm on Saturday to find it fully engulfed in flames.

Nine Queensland Fire Department crews battled the fire after they were alerted by multiple Triple Zero (000) calls.

The fire was out by 11:30pm, but the roof of the single-storey property collapsed and the building was destroyed.

Investigators could not safely start inspecting the property until Monday, with the roof being removed yesterday.

Parts of the house are still being removed.

“They have been using drone equipment to get an aerial view of what’s going on,” Inspector Marcus said.

“We can also use that footage to zoom in on certain parts of the house and also try and use that equipment to identify where the main heat source may have been.”

Police are appealing to anyone with information or images that may assist investigations to come forward.
