GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – Colorado Mesa Baseball Alumni Andrew Morris made his Major League Baseball debut over the weekend after being called up by the Minnesota Twins.
Morris entered Sunday’s game against the defending American League champion Toronto Blue Jays in relief. He pitched three innings and allowed one run on six hits while striking out two batters.
During his time at Colorado Mesa, Morris posted an 18-2 record with a 3.23 ERA in over 175 innings pitched. He struck out 215 batters, which ranks fifth on the program’s all-time chart.
Morris was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the fourth round, 114th overall, after finishing his collegiate career at Texas Tech.
He is the second Maverick pitcher currently in MLB, joining St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Kyle Leahy.
The top-ranked Mavericks are back at Hamilton Ballpark this weekend for their final regular season home game hosting Regis beginning Friday at 6pm.
