The federal government has delayed the release of highly detailed government modelling outlining the severe economic, environmental and budgetary risks posed by the effects of climate change, just weeks ahead of its decision on a new 2035 emissions reduction target.

The analysis, conducted by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, includes estimates of heat-related fatalities, detailed suburb-level mapping of coastal inundation from sea level rises and “shocking” forecasts of impacts on the agricultural sector.
