This programme will feature two highly regarded Australian coaches, Richard Clifton and Jason Cox, who will conduct a four to five-day intensive training camp involving Sarawak’s young cricketers and Sukma athletes.

KUCHING (April 16): The Sarawak Cricket Association is set to host a specialised high-performance cricket coaching programme from April 15 to 20 to further strengthen the development of the sport in the state.

According to the association, the initiative is jointly organised in collaboration with the Sarawak Sports Corporation, Rising Roos Australia and MAC Sports.

“This programme will feature two highly regarded Australian coaches, Richard Clifton and Jason Cox, who will conduct a four to five-day intensive training camp involving Sarawak’s young cricketers and Sukma athletes,” said the association in a press release on Wednesday.

It added that the programme offers a rare opportunity for local players to learn directly from coaches experienced in working with elite international athletes and professional development pathways.

Clifton, a high-performance batting coach, is widely known as the personal batting coach of Australian international cricketer Glenn Maxwell. He is currently the head batting coach at Saxon High Performance in Australia where he works with emerging and elite players to enhance batting techniques and overall performance standards.

He is also a key coach for Rising Roos Cricket, an organisation that conducts international high-performance training camps, including programmes in Bengaluru, India.

Meanwhile, Cox, a high-performance strength and conditioning coach, is the founder of High Performance Cricket (HPC), an organisation focused on delivering elite training standards to amateur and junior cricketers.

“An ASCA-accredited coach, Cox has worked with top-level players including Maxwell and Australian international Aaron Finch.

“He previously served as a strength and conditioning intern with Cricket Victoria and was a high-level junior cricketer representing Victoria at Under-17 and Under-19 levels,” the statement added.

Cox is also a lead coach within Rising Roos international programmes where he collaborates with Clifton in delivering elite development camps worldwide.

Programme participants in Kuching will be exposed to high-performance coaching methods focusing on advanced batting techniques, fast bowling performance and athletic conditioning, match awareness, as well as tactical decision-making.

The programme forms part of the Sarawak Cricket Association’s long-term vision to elevate the standard of cricket in the state while nurturing the next generation of cricket talent.
