For much of Steph Curry’s NBA career, the routine was simple for basketball fans:

Stay up late with the Golden State Warriors on the TV and watch the best shooter ever do things that the rest of the planet could only dream of.

He’s had so many special nights — that whole 73-win season, including the moonshot game-winner against the Oklahoma City Thunder that everyone who watched remembers where they were when they saw that shot drop through.

And while the story has threatened to be over a handful of different times in recent years, there are still words being written.

More specifically: There’s still a legend being written.

Curry, a player the likes of which the league has never seen and may never see again, has had the odds stacked against him the whole second half of this season.

He missed 27 games due to “runner’s knee.”

He’s without Jimmy Butler for the rest of the season.

The Warriors are just the 10-seed in the Western Conference, a mountain to climb to make any postseason noise.

But hey, they’ve got Curry.

He had an absurd second half against the Los Angeles Clippers in the play-in game, including the shot of the night, a stepback when everyone knew he was shooting and he shot it anyway:

Curry finished with 35 points. He had scored just eight in the first half but had 27 after the break.

The Warriors trailed by 13 in the fourth quarter, but no matter. They had Curry — and an out-of-nowhere outburst from Al Horford — and so their season continues.

It’ll be do-or-die again in the next stage of the play-in tournament, but that’s a chapter for another night.

Right now, Curry just authored one of those nights of his that no one will forget. 

Maybe over time they’ll all blend together, one big shot after another.

But that’s his legacy. No matter the odds stacked against him, Curry keeps writing a triumphant story. A legend until the end.
