BIG RAPIDS – The Ferris State University men’s tennis squad captured the outright 2026 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Regular-Season Championship as the Bulldogs recorded a thrilling 4-3 home triumph over Wayne State on Saturday, April 18, at the FSU Racquet and Ftness Center.
The win lifted FSU to a perfect 6-0 in the GLIAC and came in the regular-season finale for FSU, which also secured the top seed for the upcoming league tournament with the triumph.
The Bulldogs claimed their 22nd all-time conference title by topping the Warriors. Ferris State has now won eight of the last 11 regular-season titles that have been awarded.
Ferris State won its sixth consecutive match this season by beating WSU. The Bulldogs dropped the doubles point, but rallied to capture four of the six singles positions, including a critical three-set rally from Adrian Catahan at five singles by a 7-5 score to clinch the victory. FSU improved to 15-3 overall this year with the win.
The victory came following an impressive 5-2 win for the women’s squad over the Warriors.
“This was one of the more special days we’ve had at the Ferris State Racquet facility,” FSU head coach Mark Doren said. “Both teams played outstanding tennis today. I’m so proud of the hard work and focus that all 22 student-athletes on the men’s and women’s tennis teams have shown this semester. We still have more to go, but we’re going to celebrate this day.
“I can’t say enough about Adrian Catahan and his unwavering belief in his abilities today,” he added. “With the match tied 3–3, Adrian was down 4–1 in the third set and came back to win 7–5 to clinch the victory.”
The GLIAC Tournament will take place Thursday thru Saturday, April 23-25, at the Midland Tennis Center. The Bulldogs will be the number one seed and official matchups and information will be announced by the league office soon. FSU will receive a first-round bye as the top seed.
The women’s team also secured the number two overall seed with Saturday’s triumph and will also earn a first-round bye for the league tournament.
