The twins’ godparents were also on hand for the ceremony. Prince Vincent’s godfather, King Felipe of Spain, flew from Madrid for the occasion, with Crown Prince Christian giving his younger brother a quick lesson on how to bow to the Spanish monarch. His other godparents, including the Prince of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, Count Michael Ahledeld-Laurvig-Bille and Baroness Helle Reedtz-Thott, were also present.

Likewise, Princess Josephine was supported by her godparents, including Princess Marie and Prince Carlo, Duke of Castro, who was joined by his wife, the Duchess of Castro.
The celebration comes at a sad time for the Danish royals, who are mourning the death of Queen Mary’s father, Professor John Donaldson, who died on 11 April at the age of 84. In a rare joint interview following the ceremony, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine spoke about their loss, with the Prince telling Ekstra Bladet that ‘we are incredibly sad that it happened right before our confirmation day, but we know he is with us: we miss him a lot and are glad that he is now in a better place.’
Princess Josephine added: ‘It has been extremely difficult for me and for the whole family. We miss him so much, but he will always ben in our hearts.’

The Princess also revealed that, having spent a year studying away from her twin brother at the Efterskole, she would be returning to school alongside him for the 9th grade. ‘It has been an amazing experience, I’ve learnt so much and met many people,’ she said: ‘I feel like I’ve grown a lot.’
