Woman, 69, dies after ute slams into gate while boarding ferry at Lyrup in South Australia

A woman has died after a ute crashed into a gate while attempting to board a ferry in South Australia.

Emergency services were called to the ferry at Lyrup on Wilson Parade, northeast of Adelaide, about 7.40am on Tuesday following reports of a crash.

Police said a Dodge ute slammed into a gate while trying to board the ferry.

The 68-year-old male driver and his 69-year-old female passenger, both from the Riverland, were rushed to hospital.

However, the woman died a short time later.

The Lyrup Ferry remains closed, and motorists have been advised to avoid the area.

Investigations are underway.

The woman’s death marks the 37th life lost on South Australian roads this year.
