Alex Pereira is pursuing becoming a three division champion this Summer in the UFC and a former peer of his in the landscape of middleweight titleholders has weighed in on that. The combatant in question is Johnny Eblen who held the Bellator MMA belt during a time where ‘Poatan’ was holding the UFC crown at 185 pounds.
During that prior time, Eblen addressed Alex Pereira in an interview context and said that he would beat Pereira 10 times out of 10 if they ever fought. When asked for his thoughts on Pereira’s attempt to become a three-division UFC champion and fight Ciryl Gane at UFC Freedom 250, Eblen said [via Bowks Talking Bouts],
“I mean, [Pereira’s] a big dude. I’ve seen him in-person. I’m surprised he made middleweight. When it comes down to that though, him going up in weight class is beneficial for him. Because the fighters that are there. There’s not very many wrestling heavy, grappling heavy guys, the higher the weight you go. I think for his fight style with striking, going up in weight class is a good thing for him.”
“He’s going to run into a lot less problems going up in weight, if that makes sense. Also heard he cut a lot of weight, so it’s probably good for him to even go up to heavyweight cuz that dude’s big. He can get big. He’s also getting older and weight cuts start getting harder as you get older. So, I could possibly see him being a three division champ and that’s awesome.”
Alex Pereira promises big body transformation to come with heavyweight move
Alex Pereira is responding to fans who have been commenting on recent photos of his physique as he moves up to fight the former interim UFC heavyweight champion for interim gold in June and tells the Chama faithful that all is well. Touching on his current situation in a recent YouTube video address, Pereira stated [via Bloody Elbow],
“I’m heavy and have a little bit of a belly right now. Very soon you’ll see the transformation. I’m gonna look like a machine.”
Pereira also mentioned that a formal training camp has not been done to get ready for the French fighter as of yet. But that this period is more tantamount to a pre-building process for the requisite bio-chemical adjustments to get up to heavyweight for this Ciryl Gane bout in the coming weeks.
