A crew member working on How To Train Your Dragon 2 has suffered an horrific injury at the film studio where the live-action sequel is being produced.
The worker, believed to be a special effects technician, severed multiple fingers on one hand during an incident involving a saw in a workshop at Sky Studios Elstree in the UK, according to Variety.
Despite extensive surgery, surgeons weren’t able to reattach the fingers, the outlet reported.
The Universal film is the sequel to How To Train Your Dragon released in 2025 as the animated franchise’s first live-action adaptation.
Directed by Dean DeBlois, filming got underway in February with cast once again led by Mason Thames with Nico Parker Gabriel Howell, Julian Dennison, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn, Nick Frost and Gerard Butler also reprising their roles from the first film.
Cate Blanchett plays Valka, who she voiced in the animated movies with Ólafur Darri Ólafsson and Phil Dunster joining the cast as new characters.
The second movie will feature further adventures for Thames’ character Hiccup, who is Valka’s son.

News of Blanchett making the transition from the animated movies to the live-action sequel comes after DeBlois previously admitted he was keen for the Aussie to sign up for the project.
Speaking to ComicBook.com about Blanchett’s possible involvement in How to Train Your Dragon 2, the filmmaker said: “Well, I’m wishful as well. It’s still early days.”
“I think she is probably waiting for a script, but I’ve been knocking on that door. I wrote the character of Valka for her, so I told her it’ll always be hers to turn down first.”
How To Train Your Dragon 2 is set for release on June 11, 2027.
