ABC Melbourne has plummeted to its lowest radio ratings in recent times while Kyle and Jackie O’s departure from KIIS FM has delivered a surprisingly uplift.
In breakfast for the ABC, the team of Bob Murphy and Richelle Hunt — the latter who is filling in for Sharnelle Vella who is on maternity leave — dropped from a 6.6 per cent audience share to snare just 5 per cent.
In contrast, KIIS FM hauled in 5.4 per cent of the breakfast audience, up from 5.1 per cent, in the first survey of the year.
The latest ratings period covers February 8 to April 4.
Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson had an on air blow up on February 20 resulting in Jackie O staying off air and station owner ARN Media terminating Sandilands’ contract on March 3.
The $200m pair began syndicating into Melbourne at the end of April 2024 but failed to win over the local audience.
In Sydney there wasn’t much impact from their absence, where the timeslot recorded a 1 per cent fall to 11.7 per cent.
Worryingly for the ABC, the broadcaster fell across the board in Melbourne, with Brigitte Duclos in afternoons faring best.
Mornings hosted by RAF Epstein dropped to 4.3 per cent (down 2.1 percentage points), Afternoons dropped to 2.8 (down 1) and Drive with Ali Moore came in at 2.5 (down 2.3).
It was a more positive result for GOLD FM’s Christian O’Connell who was back on top in Melbourne on 10.5. He is syndicating into Sydney where he only managed to snare 5.5.
Hot on O’Connell’s tail is Nova’s breakfast team of Lauren Phillips, Jase Hawkins and Clint Stanaway who despite losing ground were still on a high with 10.3.
FOX FM’s Fifi Box, Brendan Fevola and Nick Cody were big improvers to 9.6 while Triple M’s Mick Molloy, Nick Riewoldt, Titus O’Reily and Rosie Walton also grew their audience to 7.5.
3AW’s Ross Stevenson and Russel Howcroft remained solid with a massive 18.9 share, while Tom Elliott in Mornings was another big winner, increasing to 16.4.
The station’s Afternoons (11.1) and Drive (8.7) rose slightly too.
GOLD FM had a spike in Mornings and Afternoons and dominated Drive on 13.1 ahead of Smooth FM which lifted to 10.1.
Triple M’s Rush Hour also rose to 9, ahead of Nova’s drop to 8.8.
Elsewhere, SEN’s Breakfast marginally lifted from 4 to 4.2 while Mornings with Gerard Whateley bounced back from 2.6 to 3.8.
