One of six players at the New Zealand Warriors who run off-contract at the end of the 2026 season, Tanah Boyd’s future has been clouded for some time as he prepares to make a decision in the coming months.

While he could very easily attract a ton of interest from rival teams such as the St George Illawarra Dragons, recent reports have revealed that his preference is to remain at the Warriors.

This comes as veteran journalist Brent Read stated that the Warriors have opened contract negotiations with the playmaker on a new deal.

If extended, that means it is highly likely that either Chanel Harris-Tavita or Te Maire Martin will be pushed out of the club due to them having a plethora of halves on their books such as Luke Metcalf, Luke Hanson, Jye Linnane and Jett Cleary.

“I think Tanah Boyd wants to stay at the Warriors. That’s his preference, and that’s who they’re negotiating with at the moment,” Code Sports’ Brent Read said on Triple M’s NRL Daily.

“He will only move if that deal won’t get done.

David Riccio added, “I think you’re right about the Warriors. Tanah Boyd knocked back a return to the Titans 18 months ago, while playing NSW Cup.”

DOLPHIN REJECTS $1.7 MILLION OFFER

Previously rejecting advances from the St George Illawarra Dragons, livewire Dolphins fullback Trai Fuller has turned down another team as he prepares to remain at the Dolphins.

According to Code Sports, Super League outfit Wakefield Trinity tabled a three-year deal worth around £300,000 ($1.7 million AUD) for Fuller.

Although he was keen to sign with them, it has been revealed that he won’t make the move overseas due to family reasons, as he has a child on the way.

Instead, it is understood that he will remain with the Dolphins.

The Dolphins have tabled a two-year contract offer to him worth around $500,000.

“If Trai went to England, he would win the Man of Steel. I’m serious. He is that good,” former Dolphins assistant coach Ben Te’o told the publication.

“I coached Trai at the Dolphins, he came up and down between Queensland Cup and the NRL, and he is one of my favourites.

“He is only a little guy but he has a massive heart. He is really courageous and he just has this X-factor about him.

“The game over there would suit his style of play, he would be the best player in the competition over here … but he can still be a star in the NRL.”

DRAGONS REBUILD DEALT ANOTHER BLOW

The Dragons’ rebuild has been dealt another blow with versatile Dolphins star Jake Averillo the latest player to reject an offer from the battling club.

Code Sports reported Averillo is set to reject an offer from the Dragons to sign an extension with the Dolphins.

Averillo is off-contract at the end of 2026 and has been free to negotiate with rivals from November 1, with a number of Sydney clubs, including the Dragons and the Perth Bears, interested in his services.

There were reports Averillo was on the outer at the Dolphins after signing Selwyn Cobbo, who has inked an extension with the Redcliffe club for 2027.

Averillo met with Dragons officials prior to their opening match of the season in Las Vegas, with the join venture looking to boost their outside back stocks amid their 11 game losing streak.

The 25-year-old has starred at centre for the Dolphins this season, but his versatility means he can cover anywhere in the backline and looks set to play five-eighth in Round 8 against the Warriors.

Averillo has scored 59 tries in 131 games for the Bulldogs and Dolphins isnce his debut in 2020.

Averillo is averaging 170 metres a game and has been one of the Dolphins’ best players in 2026, despite a slow start for the club.

The quality outside back joins a growing list of players the Dragons – who froze all contract talks before coach Shane Flanagan’s sacking – have failed to land in recent times.

Dolphins teammate Trai Fuller also knocked back an approach from the Dragons, who are reportedly close to signing Scott Drinkwater from the Cowboys.

The Dolphins were facing a salary cap squeeze in the outside backs, but Jamayne Isaako‘s switch to the Melbourne Storm on a two-year deal from 2027 has opened up a spot for Averillo to stay.

However, Jack Bostock and Herbie Farnworth also hit the open market on November 1 and are priority re-signings for the Dolphins.
