The wait to find out who the next US Ryder Cup captain will be is finally over.

The PGA of America have finally come to a decision regarding their next US Ryder Cup captain.

It had been a long waiting game for the governing body which controls the American arm of the competition to decide on Keegan Bradley’s successor. But a decision has now been made after Tiger Woods withdrew himself from contention following his car crash and subsequent arrest last month.

Jim Furyk has been given another chance in the hot seat for the beleaguered Stars and Stripes.

Furyk was the American captain for the 17.5-10.5 rout by Europe at Le Golf National in 2018 and was an assistant to Keegan Bradley in last year’s defeat at Bethpage. His leadership was criticised in Paris after his four captain’s picks went a combined 2-10-0.

The 55-year-old has the mammoth task of leading another Ryder Cup on the road, this time against Luke Donald who has taken charge for his third stint as European captain at Adare Manor in Ireland.

Donald and members of Ryder Cup Europe had already taken a reconnassiance trip to the luxury County Limerick resort before an official announcement regarding Furyk’s appointment had been made.

Other Americans who were considered genuine contenders to replace Bradley included Brandt Snedeker, this year’s Presidents Cup captain, and Stewart Cink.

But Furyk, who won two of nine matches as a Ryder Cup player, has been given the nod as the Americans attempt to dethrone Donald and win on away soil for the first time in 34 years.
